CREATING YOUR CUSTOM RUG: THE PROCESS
Each New River Artisans rug is made to order based on the design and size requirements of our clients. Click on the images for further explanation of our process.

RUG DESIGN SELECTION
Our talented staff collaborates with the interior designer to select the perfect style, size and colors for your custom project. The rug design can be selected from one of our exiting comprehensive programs or it can be newly conceptualized and executed solely to your specifications from an original source. Once the design, size and quote are approved, and a 50% deposit is received, the creative process begins.

Fabric, Colors & Poms
Each rug is made to order and custom colored to coordinate with the fabrics and colors of the project. In order to ensure the colors are the best fit for the project, we request that the designer send fabrics, paint chips, flooring materials or any other items relevant to the project. Our color artist will then send 100% New Zealand wool yarn poms chosen from our 1600 colors to best suit your project.

LINE ART
The next step in the process is the creation of a black and white line drawing of your specific rug design and size. Produced in AutoCad, this drawing provides you with a scaled drawing of your rug. This allows you to see exactly what you are getting and make revisions if needed.

COLOR RENDERING
Once you have approved the Line Art, the next step is the creation of a Color rendering which shows a representation of what your rug will look like. A color placement drawing will indicate where specific colors will be used so you can review the drawing along with your yarn poms to ensure the drawing matches your vision of the coloration for the rug.

STRIKE-OFF SAMPLE
Following approval of the color rendering, a strike-off sample will be made. Typically, 24” x 24” in size, the strike-off will be a sample of the construction, colors and design of the rug you ordered. The scale of the design may sometimes vary. This allows you and your client to see specifically what the final rug will look and feel like.

TUFTING THE RUG
Once all the above items are approved and signed paperwork is submitted to us, the rug will go into production. Our tufters are local artisans who have been making rugs for many years. There are several local families who have been part of the New River team over several generations. Rug production schedules vary depending on size of rug, intricacy of design and other factors, however, usually range from 4 to 16 weeks from the date of strike-off approval and as noted on your quote.

FINISHING THE RUG
Once the tufting is complete, the rug goes to finishing. Following the application of a latex backing, the rug is laid flat and is hemmed, clipped and sheared. Multi-level rugs receive an extra level of finishing.

RUG COMPLETION & SHIPPING
Once final payment is received your rug will be wrapped and crated and shipped out to you via one of our approved carriers. We take immense pride in the rugs we make and hope you enjoy it for many years to come.
